The VoiceXML Forum, a global industry trade organization chartered to promote and accelerate the adoption of VoiceXML-based applications, today announced that Voxeo’s Director of Speech Technologies, Dan Burnett, has joined the VoiceXML Forum Board of Directors for the 2011-2012 term.

“We are delighted to have an industry leader like Dan as part of the VoiceXML Forum’s Board of Directors,” says Forum Chair Bruce Pollock. “His extensive technology experience and knowledge of the industry makes Dan an ideal fit for the organization,” Pollock adds.

In addition to Dan, the Forum’s new Board of Directors is comprised of Bruce Pollock (Chair), West Interactive Corporation; Rob Marchand (Vice-Chair), Genesys Telecommunication Laboratories; Val Matula (Treasurer), Avaya, Inc.; Paolo Baggia, Loquendo, and Kevin Chatow, Nuance.

At Voxeo, Dan Burnett is responsible for all of Voxeo’s speech recognition products and research. He leads the research, development and implementation of the company’s own speech recognition and text-to-speech products, and also integrates technology from leading speech recognition providers.
Dan received his Ph.D. in computer science from the Center for Spoken Language Research at the Oregon Graduate Institute (OGI) School of Science and Engineering. Dan has led many of the speech recognition efforts in the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C), including serving as editor of the VoiceXML 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 specifications and either leading or contributing to Speech Synthesis Markup Language (SSML), Media Resource Control Protocol(MRCP) v2, Extensible Multi-Modal Annotation (EMMA), Pronunciation Lexicon Specification (PLS), and State Chart XML (SCXML).
 Dan is currently the chair of the W3C Voice Browser Working Group and the HTML Speech Incubator Group.
