Voice User Interface Design Consultant (contract position)

Position ID: AXG-1150

Location: Will work remotely and on-site / no relocation required. Travel as needed to customer sites in US.

Job Description:

The position is for a VUI Design Consultant to work as an independent contractor (on a1099 basis) contract that will allow you to work from home (no relocation required) when youre not on-site with customers in the US.

After the initial project kick-off meeting and requirements gathering, you can expect to make 1 2 trips per month, each for 2 3 days, but there is not a set schedule. The project team may need you to be available for some additional time on-site, but this is a good estimate of the travel requirements. You can plan on the most amount of time being at the beginning of the project, as you gather requirements and gain a good understanding of the customers business processes. Youll return to customer sites as needed to present requirements and later for the actual deployment, testing, tuning as the project nears completion.

The contract will be written for a the number of hours anticipated in the first 3 6 months, and then be extended by mutual agreement depending on how the initial projects go. On average, you can plan on about 10 - 20 hours per week during the times that the VUI work is being performed on each project, recognizing that there will be stages in the project that require significantly more or less time. The final stages of the project typically require a bit more time as well. However, there will also be stages when your work will be largely complete, and you may not need to commit more than a very few hours/week.

You will have a lot of visibility with the customer, face-to-face and by phone and e-mail. This is a senior/lead position, which requires excellent communication skills and a track record of managing sensitive customer relationships.

The company will provide an expense account, which will cover travel, hotel, meals, etc.

In this position you will serve as the User Interface lead on key company projects. Specific tasks will include:

Discover and analyze applications requirements from both the clients and the callers perspective

Assist in implementing these designs, including interacting with developers, directing voice talents and performing usability tests

Represent the companys User Interface approach and philosophy to customers in the sales cycle, and assist in the design and creation of compelling proposals and demos.
Provide feedback on the design and capabilities of speech recognition product software to incorporate UI lessons learned in the field.

Required Skills/Experience:

5+ years industry experience in user-centered design and speech recognition application development
BS or equivalent experience in voice user interface design

Good knowledge of natural language and directed dialog design techniques for speech applications
Has developed both call steering and self serve applications
 Experience in VoiceXML application development
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Be able to work with a minimum amount of direct supervision

Desired Skills/Experience:
